Spot 5

Just down from spot 4 is a maze of sand bars. This is the entance to that maze and the first sand bars the water hits as it enters the bay. It got a nickname last year because of an over enthusiastic fishermen that took extra swimming lessons over the winter so he could fish it more this summer but he will remain nameless! Porters Island; Is a good example of some of the areas off Crane’s beach. Crane's can be very deep in some areas but most of the beach is covered with sand bars. Safty first and you will find yourself enjoying some of  the best flats fishing on the north shore. However, this not your mothers happy Caribbean flats fishing with a happy little one foot tidal change, blue warm water and rainbows. The tides range from 7.5 to 11.4 any given day, the water is 54 to 68 but there can be rainbows! It’s a good idea to do a few things before you head out. One is check the tides so you do not get caught. Knowing exactly at what stage the tide is at will save you from having to have to swim back rather than walk back. The little depressions that you use to get out on a bar will be gone when the tide comes in and will cut off access to the main beach. There is no safe high ground off crane’s beach and you will have to swim! That is why waders are not always a good idea and if you cannot swim all that well go with a friend or ware an inflatable vest but then you will dragged out to sea?
