9/02/10 small fish, small fish not every where! Well there is one big pool of bait on front of the beach & the Essex is packed with bait. Yet there are not really any fish? The fish we have caught range from 12-20 inches & there are not a lot of them. Birds all over the place? Most of the big fish have been sitting down off shore thanks to rough surf this week but this weekend will only bring more. The only hope is the end of next week? Only thing I will get this weekend are picures of the surf. 8/28-29/10 Two from the shore! That’s two fish over two days from the shore one 28 & one 18! Super J? zero & that's rare! The two from the shore was cool a long time ago but it’s starting to catch up with me now. The fishing is hit or miss with fewer fish around than ever. On are way back into the Essex bay via Kayak Bill & I ran into NO fish & in years pass the incoming tide in the far back always has more than a bucket full of fun schoolies to pick off but not this year & not in 10 if that was the case. 8/26/10 BOOM! Nor’easter crushes beach & takes out all the awesome structure that has formed this summer. Time to walk the beach and learn it all over. 8/20-22/10 Strange weekend of fishing. Lots of bait in the water but not that many fish around. There where fish around J got into some nice fish Saturday but I was watching the end of the Red sox game when he was getting his fish. J has a new Boga grip so the numbers would read 29, 20, 19, 10 ect. I showed up like a normal person and fished with John Brown and friends but even with all the bait in the water on Sunday my only good size fish was 37 inches or 36 ½ according to John. The real let down was all the boats off beach with guys drag bait 10 feet from the shore. Guess what they got nothing! Most likely because they ran the fish over when they came in way to close. You can thank the bait shop in Essex for lifting my last report and getting it re-printed in the Herald ;/. Nevertheless, with this nice big nor’easter I would not think it would be any fun to fish till this weekend. You cannot complain because weather and wind wise this has been a wicked awesome summer! So take a brake and get ready for the big run that is September. Video update! |

8/17/10 Do not hate the players it’s the game! Well this was a slow weekend but the fish where out there.Fri-Saturday small schoolies & blues. Took off Sunday but reports from Chenson said zip! The problem is there are so few smaller fish feeding on the silver sides that there is knowone getting the bigger fish worked up into a frenzy. Therefore, they can pick & chose what & when they eat. They where eating live bait a few mornings this weekend but not lures severed up on this glass calm water. These & all big bass in general are inherently lazy so they rode the big tides in this weekend ate what they wanted & turned & ran once the water moved out. Nevertheless, I showed up Monday morning to test my incoming tide theory in the big surf. Like all my theories they are wrong 95% of the time but they catch me fish 100% of the time! 42-inch fish on Smack-it! 100%! :) Are there fish on the beach now? There is bait but this storm out at sea slowed the fishing with rough seas and there was also thick fog so give it a few days and find a spot where the tide is coming in on deep water AND Catch and release! 8/11-8/13 It’s slow but there is a ton of bait on the beach! However, looks like the fish are coming in on the tide and riding these big tides out as soon as they start moving leaving this beach devoid of big fish in a the AM. There where some big fish on Tuesday but its been Daytime fishing with live macks most of this week? |

Foggy all weekend |
8/07/10 An every other day event at Crane’s but you have to be lucky & good! It’s been random, some times it’s the end & sometimes you do not have to walk that far. Friday I ran into a big pod of fish on my way out from 39inch - 33 One key! the Smack-it was the best lure over the last few days. 8/05/10 Well past on an update on Monday but it would have been just a light one. There are some fish around. Small bass & blues poking up here & there but nothing you can time. However, nice tides this weekend & the weather could hold so you never know it is August? Fish come out of the parker and up around from Rockport so bigger fish season is now :) |

Chenson 24 inch bass |
7/24/10 - 27 This would have been the weekend to put some time in fishing Crane’s beach; low tides with exposed sand bars, nice weather & big bass came in for 3 days & left with the bait ect. After seeing drag marks left by one of the super pro eel guys Friday Jason & I started early on Saturday. We found a spot with deep water at mid-tide at night & plugged away. J after 20min picked up a nice 38inch bass. When the sun came up we moved with the tide & ran into a BIG school of BIG blues that had moved over from Rockport & hooked up after we figured out what these finicky Blues where eating? Ya, finicky! They where full of Pollock! So the smack-it & big splashy lures worked at last & best. Sunday started out the same J hooked up with a nice 39-40 inch fish at night but then the lighting moved in. J is smarter than me so he went back to the car. I stayed & moved out with the tide after they past I picked up some nice big bass; 30,40 and 48. Moved back in with the tide & fished with Chanson for more blues & a 42 inch bass. Returned Tuesday with Bill & Aaron Q & it was all Blues as the bass have left to return when the bait returns. On my walk back I ran into a bunch of good fishermen that hooked up with a few small schoolies & 1 or two small blues& alot of water so its back to slow a Cranes Hight light of the weekend? super eel guy John _ catching & Releasing a fat 42! thanks Noonan! 7/19/10 Well with krill being the main bait all the way down the beach the big fish and any fish for that matter are hold off making a run up on to the beach. Saturday I stayed away from the end and picked up zero fish! The fish of the day (only fish) was Peter Novello's big rouge blue that had to be 10-15 pounds caught on a pearl holo smack-it. Two guys went to the end but did about the same. Sunday was more walking at per-dawn with Chanson. I picked up one fish 28 and Chanson one 24. We moved to the end to play the drop hoping for more fish but all we picked up it was a 27 for me and 18 for the big C. On the way out we fished the areas that where holding krill the last few weeks but we could tell it was time to go home after 30min. So slow! Even the boat guys off shore lacked bent rods so hope waits for the fall or the bait that has not found the beach yet |
